Background
An organization faced unauthorized publication of sensitive data by a malicious actor who demanded ransom and later released the compromised information. The engagement required a rapid cyber investigation and takedown operation to eliminate exposure channels, close root causes of the hack, and ensure long‑term protection.
Challenges
Sensitive data was published across hacker‑controlled websites and Telegram channels, creating immediate reputational and operational risks. Solution
A targeted cyber investigation was conducted using OSINT methodologies to identify all compromised data and distribution channels. The hacker’s websites were permanently disabled through domain suspension and hosting termination, while Telegram channels distributing the data were reported and escalated for removal. Root causes of the breach were analyzed and closed, with recommendations provided for credential resets, MFA enforcement, and hardened account security.
Results
All malicious URLs were successfully identified and taken down, eliminating the attacker’s primary distribution hubs. Telegram channels were removed, reducing exposure and preventing further dissemination of sensitive data. Root causes of the hack were addressed, securing accounts and infrastructure.
